Version 4.22 performs various operations related to deleting, moving
and editing data in the registry and the file system faster than ever
before. The interface of the program has been optimized and is simpler

SBMAV Disk Cleaner 3.30 is now easier to control because some control elements have been removed and the processes controlled by these elements have been automated. Besides, each features is controlled right where this feature is available, which makes the interface considerably less complicated. Due to this, it is now much more comfortable to control the program.

• Completely revised controls. The “Advanced” and other areas with various links have been removed. The left panel now consists of only the list of functions and the “Menu” button. All items controlling the functions have been moved to the function tabs and they are controlled entirely from there.

The software removal feature has been considerably modified in the new version. The feature now has two filters (quick search and filtering by manufacturers), new functions for reducing the list of installed software (hiding updates and the programs you select). So now the feature works many times faster, which takes it to an absolutely new level.

The disk cleanup feature now works with the list of unnecessary items much faster. The list can now be filtered by the item type. The menu is now simpler and more comfortable. The scanning algorithm has been also modified. The latter has acquired new capabilities and is now faster.

The duplicate search feature has been optimized. The disk is now scanned faster. The total analysis time has also reduced.

The disk analyzer is now simpler. Some control items have disappeared, everything they controlled is now automated. It is enough to select a folder and the program will analyze it and show the result in a table in a comprehensible form.

Version 2.86 has new configuration options, cleanup settings for some popular programs, including such browsers as Opera, Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari. Among other changes, we should mention the increased usability. Now the tool plays a sound after scanning is over and its button on the taskbar blinks if the program window is minimized. Working with the exception list has been also improved, now you can edit any exception with a double click on the corresponding item.

The scanning module has been tweaked a bit, now the program skips scanning temporary folders if these folders are located on disks that are not selected for scanning. In other words, the program now scans only the disks selected by the user.

Besides the things mentioned above, the search configuration has been tweaked a bit: new wildcardss and exceptions have been added.

It should also be mentioned that the new version of SBMAV Disk Cleaner is currently under development. The main efforts are aimed at making it easier to work with the list of files found during the disk cleanup. We will not tell you the details so far, just note that it will be a completely new and easy-to-use list with unbelievable performance rate. For example, I stopped using the Firefox browser not long ago because I was quite fed up with its bugs I had come across all the time. So I lost my patience on one wonderful day and removed Firefox. That was when the problems followed. The system kept trying to open all pages and links in the program that wasn’t there – Firefox. Even after I reset the settings and set Internet Explorer as the default browser, it did not solve the problem. I had to go through a lot of registry keys with Reg Organizer^® to get Internet Explorer back to life. I managed to do it in a way. I got what I wanted. But I spent a lot more time on it than it had taken Firefox to be removed from the system. That was when Firefox lost its prestige in my eyes. The developers are preoccupied with how the program will run and perform its functions according to the standards without thinking about the problems the program leaves after it is removed.

Then I configured Internet Explorer 7 and started choosing a new browser for myself. Still there are some minor inconveniences in Internet Explorer. Friends recommended that I try Maxthon 2, which I actually did. I installed the latest version and configured it. I used for less than a day. It turned out that it was not very convenient to work in it because of problems with blocking ads and switching the language. First I noticed that pressing Ctrl+Shift does not switch the keyboard layout. I found the solution of this problem on the official site. It seemed the problem had been solved. No way. Ads were not longer blocked. Having considered my last actions, I enabled the option I had disabled in order to switch the layout. It started to block ads again, but it was impossible to switch the layout again. And it was the other way about when I tried to disable that option. Thus, Maxthon 2 did not take root on my computer as well. I removed it.

But here we go again. Maxthon left its associations with Internet pages all over the place. Wherever possible, the system offered to open them in Maxthon. But I did remove it! I managed to solve the problem in an hour. I opened Reg Organizer^® and removed all registry keys where Maxthon was mentioned.

I can give you several dozens of other programs that leave problems for users after they are uninstalled. The programs seem to be popular and still they so recklessly leave things behind once removed. Is it that difficult to keep the previous state of the system and restore it after the program is removed? Indeed, the browser is one of those programs that are used all the time. And it really drives you mad when you just cannot open the page you need, when you have to perform additional operations to do it. Why don’t the developers of these programs think about it? Why do others have to think about it? I don’t quite get it.

First of all, we should start from what causes the Windows operating system to slow down. It is all caused by fragmented system registry files, removed and unnecessary registry entries remaining in files. Now let’s take one at a time.

Fragmentation

It occurs when a file is located on difference disk sectors. As a result of adding new part to, updating and overwriting files, their parts may be saved to different sectors that are located quite far from each other. It reduces the rate files are read at. Imagine that you have a large stand where you keep a lot of various literature (a book is a file), but not as regular books, but as separate chapters. Moreover, the first chapter may stand on one shelf, while the second one is on another shelf in the corner, the third one is on the third shelf in the middle, and the forth one is located on the forth shelf between two chapters from a completely different book. Not to get lost on the stand, you have a general plan where you can see the place of every chapter of every book. Now here’s a task for you – read some book. You take the plan and start reading the book, chapter by chapter moving from shelf to shelf searching for each next chapter. Of course, it will take a lot of time and you will quickly get tired. The same occurs in the computer in case of defragmentation. To read one fragmented file, the hard drive head has to move a lot over different sectors collecting bits of information from different disk parts. It takes a while. The operating system slows down in this case.

Defragmentation

As you can judge from the name, it is a process opposite to fragmentation. It means that the chapters of one book are arranged on one shelf in the proper order. Now imagine that you are standing near this stand and read a book like this. You will spend considerably less time on searching for the necessary chapter and the total time you will need to read the book will be reduced. The hard drive head also finds information faster in the computer and, as a result, the system works faster.

Microsoft Windows system registry

It is the heart of the operating system, it stores all settings and configuration of the operating system and a lot of software installed on the computer. While running, the operating system (or various programs) very often accesses the registry and reads and writes data. The registry is stored in regular files located on the hard drive. Of course, the registry files get fragmented because data is often read from them and written to them. As a result, the entire system slows down. Imagine that you have to read books from a stand where all chapters are randomly scattered all the time. Do you imagine how much time it will take?

System registry defragmentation and compression

System registry defragmentation means defragmenting the system registry files of the operating system. But you have to compress the registry files first.

What is registry compression? Registry compression comes down to deleting unnecessary and removed entries, which results in reducing the total size of the system registry. The registry files get considerably larger after the Windows operating system runs for a long time. It is mainly caused by installing and removing all kinds of software. When you remove unnecessary entries from the system registry, they are only marked as removed, but they still exist in it and occupy space. Besides, a lot of absolutely unnecessary data that just fills it up appear in the registry with time.

What can you use to compress and defragment the registry?

There are a lot of tools on the Internet that can clear unnecessary entries from the registry. But very few of them can defragment the registry. What does complete software removal mean?

After you uninstall some programs, traces left by these programs during their installation and work remain in the system. Often these include all kinds of settings specified by the user or the program. If you are not going to use this program any more, you should remove them.

You can never tell in advance which program leaves what in the registry and on your drives behind. Of course, it is possible to use all kinds of special registry and disk monitors to see what happens to them during the installation and work of a program. But most users find this method uninteresting and not particularly comfortable.

• Do not hurry to exit the program after you make the second snapshot. Compare the snapshots to make sure that there are no elements from other software. It is impossible to unload everything from the system so there can be some activity from other software. If there are such elements in the comparison report, just remove them from it.
